Dominique Laurent began dance at an early age at Mayfair Academy where she studied ballet, jazz, and tap under the direction of Peggy Sutton. There she was a member of the Mayfair Performing Company. Upon entering high school she focused on her academic studies and later returned to dance at Sammy Dyer School of Theatre. There she studied pointe, ballet, hip-hop, and tap. It was at the University of Illinois at Champaign that she joined Hip-notic, a hip-hop dance team and Omnimov, an African/modern based dance group. She later discovered that she had a strong interest in Praise Dance and Modern as a way of self-expression. Dominique is the co-founder of the first praise dance team at the University of Illinois at Champaign, the Jericho Angels praise dance team. She also served as the Vice-President and Choreographer. She received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Speech Communications with a Minor in Spanish from the University of Illinois. She has also studied dance at Columbia College of Chicago.
Dominique is currently part of the St. Ailbe Church Praise Dance team where she has been a member since 2003. She is the Choreographer for the St. Ailbe Angels praise dance team, the youngest team at the church. Dominique is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. where she enjoys stepping and competing in step shows at different campuses and venues. In 2010, she received her Master of Arts in Teaching from National-Louis University and is currently a middle school teacher, so that she can continue to educate our youth in both dance and academics.
